This page concerns my father's Navy career, from Oct. 16, 1934 - Mar. 5, 1946. He was discharged holding the rank of CBM.

Below is an undated stern photo of the U.S.S. Milwaukee CL-5 that my dad served on from Feb. 16, 1935 - Sep. 7, 1937.

The Ship is an OMAHA-Class Light Cruiser
With a Displacement of 7,050 Tons, Dimensions, 555' 6" (oa) x 55' 4" x 20' (Max)
Armament consists of 12 x 6"/53, 2 x 3"/50AA, 10 x 21" tt.
It's Armor is a 3" Belt, 1 1/2" on the Deck, and 1 1/2" on the Conning Tower.
Geared Turbines generate 90,000 SHP, transferred to 4 screws
It had a Top Speed of 35 Knots, with a Crew of 458.
Operational and Building Data
The keel was laid on 13 DEC 1918 at Seattle Construction & Dry Dock Co., Seattle WA.
and launched by Todd Dry Dock & Construction Co. Seattle, WA on 24 MAR 1921.

The Navy Commissioned the ship on June 20, 1923.
The U.S.S. Milwaukee was transferred on loan to Soviet Union on 20 APR 1944 under the Lend/Lease program, and was renamed the Murmansk.
It was later transferred back to United States on 16 MAR 1949, and repainted to remove the Soviet paint scheme.  (mostly, the white paint stripe at the waterline).
The U.S.S. Milwaukey was Decommissioned March 18,1949, and was stricken from the Navy records on March 18, 1949.
It was sold for scrap December 10, 1949 to American Shipbreakers, Inc., Wilmington, DE.

Below is a picture of the U.S.S. Augusta CL-31.  Another Cruiser.  Dad served aboard this ship from Sep. 7, 1937 to June 3, 1939, and again from June 26, 1939 to July 9, 1939, and once again, from August 3, 1939 to May 1, 1940.  This all according to the certificates listed above.  He is listed as a Seaman First Class during the entire time.
